Panel discussion
Stepping up climate ambition: economics, policy and justice
Climate change is a challenge for all of us. Young people are on the streets, academics are calling for action, policymakers and politicians can no longer ignore it. Time for action, and it starts with ourselves!
Experts will discuss following questions:
- Does economic growth complicate the transition to a zero carbon society?
- How can we ensure public acceptance of climate policies?
- What are the barriers to stepping up climate ambition and how can we overcome?
Three renowned experts will participate in this panel discussion:
- honorary doctor professor Lord Nicholas Stern (environmental economist at London School of Economics)
- Jos Delbeke (former Director-General Climate Actions for the European Commission)
- professor Jean-Pascal van Ypersele (chair of the Energy and Climate Working Group for the Belgian Council for Sustainable Development and UCLouvain)
Professor Claire Dupont (Ghent University) will moderate the discussion.
The panel discussion is organized on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and is in lign with our strategic goal of sustainability. That evening the Rector will award an institutional honorary degree on behalf of Ghent University and the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration to Lord Nicolas Stern for his scientific contributions on climate change economics. Professor Brent Bleys is promotor.
